Networx3 UAV is helping protect a 128-year-old Grade II listed building for future generations.
The red brick and terracotta Spring Hill library is a distinctive landmark in Ladywood, Birmingham.
Networx3 UAV deployed their 21st century technology to inspect the Victorian architectural gem ahead of building works.
Using the Matrice 210 V2 RTK from its fleet of five cutting-edge drones the onboard camera was able to capture photographs and video footage around and above the building.
Networx3 UAV managing director Ian Ashworth and commercial director Caroline Earnshaw, who are two of the company’s five qualified commercial drone pilots, chose the Matrice because of its zoom function, which is so powerful that it can pick up a crystal clear image of a dead fly on a car windscreen from 400ft up in the air.
The roof and structure drone survey was able to check for missing pointing, roof and ridge tiles, flashing, standing water, gullies and guttering and inspect the condition of the 65ft tall clocktower for weather damage.
Ian said: “Our drones really come into their own on a job like this. To do the kind of comprehensive inspection the Matrice did without the drone would have meant scaffolding the entire building and putting people 40-60ft in the air on harnesses.
“It would have cost thousands of pounds and been risky from a health and safety perspective. Our inspection report means that the building company we were working for can now quote very accurately for the work that needs doing because they have hi-res colour images of the areas that need attention.”
