Drone sewer inspections would seem to be a precarious operation as it involves flying a drone in a narrow, small, and confined space. However, what would have been virtually impossible to do just a short time ago is now a reality with the introduction of the Elios 2 drone.

Networx3 UAV is one of the few companies in the UK that own and operate an Elios 2 drone. Our pilots are both Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) registered and GVC certified.

Main advantages of using a drone for sewer inspections:

  • Significant savings in cost and time are created
  • Considerably safer than traditional methods of sewer inspection
  • Clear and accurate inspections completed in very difficult conditions

The Elios 2 drone has been purpose-built to inspect confined spaces such as sewer pipes. Sewer pipes have to be maintained and checked and, therefore, need to be inspected on a regular basis.

Blockages can easily occur with a build-up of waste materials and debris, and the actual fabric and structure of the sewer and any pipework needs to be checked for the degradation and deterioration that naturally occurs over time.

The Elios 2 drone is equipped with a 4K camera and has a 0.18 mm per pixel resolution. The smallest of cracks and fissures can be spotted in the fabric of sewers and pipework and its powerful lighting system cuts through darkness and dust to easily reveal any problems that might be apparent.

In addition, we have our own ‘Mobile Command centre’ and the customer is able to tell the drone pilot to fly the drone to any particular location in the sewers. The customer directs the drone and this is viewed live in ‘real time’ time whilst the flight is being undertaken. This means we get things right ‘first time’.
